Explorers warn that the city is a dangerous place to reach, for the forest that guards its gate is infested by fierce monsters and by the soldiers of a brutal army. The interior of the city, however, is well-defended by companies of veteran guards. Explorers report that the citizenry of Darkendale are fairly insular and slow to welcome outsiders; the dangerous nature of their neighboring forest has stifled trade and forced them to become completely self-sufficient, and as a result their distrust of outsiders has now grown to great heights.
