Explorers claim that a particularly large and dangerous specimen of this lion-bodied, eagle-winged race makes his home atop one of the mountains to the east of Nevrast, together with his mate and young, preying on unwary wanderers who traverse the lower reaches of the mountain.

Veteran explorers warn also that the lower slopes of this particular mountain seem to be the favored hunting ground for a band of belligerent, bloodthirsty trolls. Whether these savage beasts have any connection with the griffon pride above them, or compete with them for prey, the explorers cannot be sure.
