lso known as the Mountains of Shadow, this great range of bleak mountains fences off half of Mordor's borders from the world. Travelers approaching the Evil Lord's lands from the west are faced with towering peaks running north to south, the western wall of Sauron's domain. The fortress of Minas Morgul stands athwart the only pass. The Anduin River runs on the west side of this ridge, its waters nourishing the Forest of Ithilien, the last bastion of greenery before the accursed lands.
