elieved by the peasants to be named for the fact that no sailors attempting to cross this body of water have returned, the Blood Sea actually gets its name from the reddish sands lining its beaches and staining its shallows, carved out of the surrounding red granite bedrock over the course of centuries. A vast tract of water bordering the known lands westward from the mouth of the Anduin River, huge swells roll across its surface, and from any vantage point on land, it appears to stretch on forever towards the south.
