The Old Forest

Found in the northeastern part of the Shire, the Old Forest is a dark and forbidding place with a reputation for strange events and unexplained disappearances. It is known to be infested by large and particularly vicious wolves, who on occasion raid into the Shire. Some of the older hobbits who ventured into the forest as youngsters insist that the trees walk freely within the boundaries, not rooted to one spot as one might more reasonably expect. Most hobbits give no credence to this, though many of the old-timers insist that it is the truth. Whenever another hobbit disappears in the Old Forest, the old-timers shake their heads and say sagely that the trees have claimed another victim.
