The Plague Village

Near the great kingdom of Centranon is a small human village. Once quite unremarkable, this minor settlement has now attracted attention from King Stephen's court for two reasons. Firstly, the settlement has become contaminated by a most virulent plague, which has by now afflicted most of its population, and which King Stephen's ministers fear might spread across the border. Secondly, the village has also become infested by evil in the form of hideous demons who rampage freely through the streets, and the souls of the first victims of the plague who have returned from the dead as bitter, hungry ghosts. The few surviving goodly priests of the village do what they can to combat the evil and lessen the suffering of the sick, but there is little they can do. Sages and other wise folk disagree on whether the demons are in fact the cause of the plague, or whether they saw an already plague-ridden settlement as an easy target. Explorers warn their students to go near the Plague Village only if it cannot possibly be avoided, and then to be most vigilant.
