Mozart Mud's Surface realms cover a considerable topographical area, punctuated by great bodies of water. This overview is but a summary of the full extent of the Surface world, the lore that is known by even the most novice adventurers. To discover the regions of the world in greater detail, one must explore. The famed hobbit cartographer, Barvin Ringletoes, has kindly provided one of his maps to aid in your expeditions; click on an area for a closer view, or on the compass above to scroll the map or zoom out.

The great cosmopolitan city-state of Nevrast is roughly central to the main land mass, at the junction of four major highways. The mighty Rilghorn River runs through the city from west to east.

To the south of that city, a highway runs through farmland and through the crater left behind by some ancient cataclysmic event to reach the city-state of Raven's Bluff, a largely human city of lesser importance. An east-west highway runs through Raven's Bluff, connecting that city with the Misthaven Highlands to the west and the White Mountains and Amber Forest to the east. Beyond the White Mountains lies the age-old evil realm of Mordor, while forested lands rumored to contain structures from antiquity line the western road from Raven's Bluff.

The western highway out of Nevrast through the southern area of the Shire, home of the hobbits, on its way into the Talonguard Mountains. Here the Dwarfrealm is situated, ruled by the seemingly ageless King Kerrin of the House of Almi. This subterranean realm controls access to the lands beyond, for the mountain peaks are perilous indeed: the only safe way forward is by leave of the dwarves to travel through their fastness. On the far side of King Kerrin's territory, a traveler can head north to the legendary white castle of Camelot, home to King Arthur and those knights and champions who serve him. Alternatively, by traveling westward, an adventurer will leave the temperate climes behind and enter the Dunes of Thakilran, a vast desert. The first feature of the desert is Greensprings, the desert's sole of oasis, surrounded by a permanent encampment of humans and strange, fierce desert elves. Further west in this vast expanse of hot sand stands the city of Teron, ruled by the mighty King Anexander with the aid of his templars. From the northern gate of Teron, a trail continues through the desert toward Kardash, city of the desert dwarves, whose guard companies patrol their city with great tenacity in the face of repeated attacks from outsiders.

The eastern highway out of Nevrast passes through a mountain range also, like its western counterpart. En route to the mountains, this highway runs through a crossroads from which another road runs off to the south, through the Enchanted Forest to the city of Lycanthropia, a werebeast-infested port on the Crystal River. East from the junction lies the Midrealm.

Northeast from the crossroads, the road degenerates into a trail through the Stoneforge and Eastern Mountains before eventually descending into the lowlands again. This way lies the expanse of the Great Eastern Desert and the cities of Old Thalos and New Thalos. Beyond New Thalos lies the Dragon Sea, a wide ocean liberally peppered with islands. Across the Dragon Sea lies the forest-bracketed city of Katsukyo.

The western branch of the Rilghorn out of Nevrast extends but a short way before its source in the merging of the Brandywine and Dark Rivers. The Brandywine flows southeast out of the Shire; the Dark winds its way through Loa Forest and reaches its source in the Wolfspur Peaks, just to the north of a secluded and pleasant Vale. Legends suggest that one of the twin Portals to the Abyss is located somewhere near this idyllic setting: darkest evil hiding in the shadow of innocence. The eastern Rilghorn out of Nevrast twists and turns through deep ravines in the Avenmore Mountains, splitting and recombining into the Ishtar River, which eventually flows past the mystical silver cord that ascends to the cloud-top city of Graecia at the the foot of Mount Olympus, thence to the docks of the city of New Thalos, and from there into the Dragon Sea.
